How to Bet

In order to bet, you need to go to a bookmaker. In the old days, this meant going to the local high street, walking into the shop and standing there amongst the old guys dressed like someone from an episode of Lovejoy. These days, there are many reputable sites on the internet doing the same thing but without the hassle.

There are many sites, Betfair.com, 365.com, William hill, 888.com etc (a site I use called oddschecker.com lists the big ones you might consider) all quoting odds for everything you could imagine. You can decide over time which site you prefer.

To bet online, you need to register with a site, which is quite straight forward. You then need to transfer some money, either through paypal or with a credit card. When it arrives, you can start betting.

In order to bet on games in Australia, with an Australian licensed bookie (which includes those listed above), you need to prove you are who you say you are and not a front for organized crime. They will send you a letter outlining this but you need to get a certified copy of your passport (of the new type) and your credit card. Certified means stamped by a doctor, judge, dentist, accountant etc. They will let you bet for a while without these but will eventually block you if you don’t provide them.
